In episode 005 of our podcast, we had the pleasure of delving into the life and career of Dr. Justin Krueger, a multifaceted musician whose talents extend far beyond the keys of his piano. From his role as a music director to his endeavors as a composer and educator, Justin embodies the essence of a true artist dedicated to his craft.
THEN AND NOW
Justin reflects on his catalyst into the world of music, which began with a simple decision made by his mother decades ago – piano lessons. At 7 years old, the trajectory for a lifetime of musical exploration and passion was set. Many years later, armed with a Bachelor’s degree in religious studies and a Doctorate in Musical Arts, Justin’s expertise spans both the theoretical and practical aspects of music.
Currently based at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin, Justin wears many hats – from teaching private piano lessons to serving as an adjunct professor and composing Christian choral pieces. Through divine intervention, Justin has found countless opportunities to grow his skill set.
EMBRACING YOURSELF
During our podcast conversation, Justin shared insights into his creative process and the importance of embracing imperfection in musical performance. He emphasized the relational aspect of music, highlighting the irreplaceable connection between performer and audience that is best experienced live. As a teacher, he speaks to acknowledging the individuality of each of his students, ages 4-78, and tailoring lessons and music choices to their skills, tastes, and style.
THE COCKTAIL
Our mixologist was inspired by Justin’s talent, and created this episode’s custom aperitif with the image of classic black and white piano keys in mind. With ingredients like white or gold rum, orgeat, lime juice, lemonade, and angostura bitters, this cocktail captures a refreshing and classic essence, offering a refreshing ‘symphony of flavors’ with every sip.
